Operation Enduring Lawn Update.

Progress

Progress

Well, I’ve made quite a bit of progress since my last post. I moved the sprinklers about three feet into the old lawn. I put up the decorative fencing generously dontated by my buddy Ron Root. I laid landscape fabric, and planted some small shrubs behind the fence. I put the fountain in, though it needs some work still – plus the damn thing broke (the pump failed). I seeded and added starter fertilizer (both organic). Finally, I started moving some boulders into the flower bed on the ‘dog side’ of the fence. There’s a few boulders left that I plan to put there before I add the decorative gravel.

On a somewhat seperate topic; I also put together a little bistro-set that I picked up at costco. The old plastic patio chairs we had were pretty much spent. Please forgive the mess in this pic – we’re under construction.

I’ve come up with plans for the little red bark area, and the space behind the hot-tub. Essentially I’ll fix up the soil, throw some sod down, and hope the dogs don’t trash it too much. Even if the dogs do get to it, it’s no biggie since it’s all pretty well hidden by the hot-tub.

All in all it’s coming together nicely. Hopefully I can get it to a presentable state by Saturday, since Nicole’s birthday party is at our house…

Weekend poo…

Poo ON dirt.

This weekend’s efforts to restore the back yard lawn were a bunch of crap. Sixteen cubic feet of composted steer crap to be precise. Before that however, I had the priviledge of unearthing one run of sprinkler line, and moving it three feet to accomodate for the fence I’ll be installing to keep out Dutchess Piper Baloo. All in all it was a pretty productive time, but I was exhausted afterwards. Of course, I guess that’s what the hot tub is for…   :D

This is a great venue for our annual Geekon. Five bedrooms and something like a dozen various beds. It’s in a beautifully serene area near Grass Valley called Lake of the Pines. Here’s some pics:

IGT sold a technology that we were prototyping that involved poker tables. Since they were going to throw away a bunch of poker tables, I was able to obtain (with permission) a couple table tops. I plan on bringing the smaller top about 12-18 inches above the larger one, allowing one surface for game maps, and the other for player books/characters, etc.

The fence that could have been.

In order to keep the dogs out, I figured I would put up a temporary fence. Once time and budget allow, I’ll put up a permanent fence and gate. The permanent fence will be decorative and allow you to see the beautiful landscaping I will perform.

The question at this point was, “will a two foot tall temporary fence, prevent a seven foot tall dog from ruining my work?”

The answer to the question was no. Piper has no problem jumping over the fence to do her business… Buttercup, on the other hand, well, she just seems too lazy to jump the fence.
